Since March 2008—after passing his Comprehensive Exams for his Doctoral study in music composition (City University of New York, Graduate Center)—Eric Roth has been working at AWR Music as a full time composer, producer and conductor while overseeing all of AWR’s music library operations. At AWR, Eric has composed and produced original music for Apple iPhone/iPod Applications (ScrollMotion’s Curious George’s Dictionary, Mobile Zodiac) and has arranged and orchestrated music for the motion picture soundtrack of Barbie™ in “A Christmas Carol,” the Irish Tenors, the Pittsburg Symphony Brass, the Barbie at the Symphony concert production, and other music for live performance and recordings. Eric conducted for Jewel and Stevie Nicks—on PBS Soundstage HD, the Irish Tenors’ 2008 Summer Tour, and for a recording of music by Guggenheim Fellow Primous Fountain for Uji Films’ forthcoming documentary about Mr. Fountain. Eric also produced that recording session. He has credits on over thirty commercial recording releases as a producer and performer (percussion, voice, etc.).
Eric continues to maintain an active composing schedule. Recent commissioned compositions include Trick for solo performer—which Eric premiered at the Abbey Pub for Nextbook’s May 2008 Chicago event, The Feel Variatious for solo viola—commissioned for the New York violist Brian Thompson, and The Clark Street Bridge Project for 80-plus performers—commissioned by the City of Chicago Department of Cultural Affairs.
Eric was adjunct faculty at Brooklyn College Conservatory of Music, teaching courses in music theory and music history, at Boston University Online as an instructor for a Doctoral level composition course: Arranging for Small Jazz Ensemble, and teaching musicianship at Mills College (Oakland, California). In addition to his D.M.A. studies, Eric holds a Master of Arts in music composition from Mills College and a Bachelor of Arts in both music and religious studies from the University of Michigan. His composition instructors have included Tania Leon, Alvin Curran, Joelle Leandre, Fred Frith and Stephen Rush. He also holds the rank of both Adept-at-large of the Temple of Earth and Reverend Minister of the Universal Life Church (ordained for the purpose of performing legal wedding ceremonies).
